Owning a hot tub provides great relaxation in the winter and refreshment in the summer with minimal maintenance (compared with swimming pools, for instance).
Still, hot tubs do require a bit of upkeep so they stay in good condition over the years. Neglect can cause unsanitary conditions and even injury. Here are a few tips to keep your hot tub in excellent shape on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis. Daily tasks Hot tubs require just a bit of attention on a daily basis. The daily upkeep will go a long way to prevent problems further down the road. Each day, check the water temperature to make sure it’s still at the minimum level. Remove debris from the water, and make sure the cover is fully protecting your hot tub. Weekly tasks Each week, you’ll want to check the sanitizer levels, pH balance, and alkalinity. This will keep your tub safe for use. Be sure that you briefly clean the hot tub filter and also clean the surface around the water line on a weekly basis. Monthly tasks At the beginning or end of each month, the hot tub will require a little more attention than usual. For monthly maintenance, clean and condition the hot tub cover so that it doesn’t allow bacteria to get into your hot tub. If you’re using your hot tub regularly, you’ll also want to drain and refill the hot tub to deep clean and refresh the water source. This can be done every 2-3 months if you’re using the hot tub less often.
